Caught Red Handed (Red Velvet Chocolate Chip Kiss Cookies)

I was looking for some fun and new recipes to make this year for the holidays. With all new traditions this year I thought I would shake things up and make something festive, chocolatey, and really pretty!

Red Velvet Chocolate Chip Kiss Cookies

Ingredients
1 Stick plus 6 Tbsp unsalted butter, room temp
1 3/4 Cup Brown Sugar, packed
2 eggs
1 Tbsp Vanilla
1 3/4 Cups All Purpose Flour
3/4 Cup Cocoa Powder
1/2 tsp Baking Soda
1/4 tsp Baking Powder
1/4 tsp Salt
1 Cup Mini Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips
1-2 Tbsp Red Liquid Food Coloring, or until you get your desired color
1 12 Ounce Bag of Dark Chocolate Kisses or Peppermint Hugs
Red Sanding Sugar, if desired

Directions

1. Preheat the oven at 350 degrees and line cookie sheets with parchment paper.

2. Put the butter and the brown sugar in the bowl of a mixer, and beat on medium high with the paddle attachment until the mixture is light and fluffy - about 2-3 minutes.

3. Add the eggs one at a time and mix until fully combined, then scrape the sides and add the vanilla.

4. Measure out all of the dry ingredients - flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, salt - over a wire sieve or in a sifter and sift into the mixing bowl.

5. Mix the dough until it comes together and has a cookie dough consistency.

6. Add the Red Food coloring until you reach the desired color, then fold in the chocolate chips.

7. Pour the red sanding sugar - if using - into a bowl.

8. Measure out 1 - 2 Tbsp size balls, roll them in the sanding sugar, place on the parchment lined baking sheets, and bake for 11-14 minutes or until the tops of the cookies begin to crack.

9. Take the cookies out and let them cool for 2-3 minutes then top with the Hershey Kisses or Hugs.

10. Cool completely and Enjoy!
